the event
Every two years, mayors and officials from the over 300 member cities of the Milan Urban Food Policy Pact come together in a Global Forum where they exchange knowledge and best practices on urban food policies, participate in technical workshops, network and build strategic partnerships.
In 2025, the Milan Urban Food Policy Pact celebrates its first decade of activity and, for the occasion, organises in Milan – the city where it all began during EXPO 2015 – the new edition of its Global Forum.

The MUFPP Global Forum official agenda will span over three thematic days:
14 Oct – Ten Years of Collective Learning
15 Oct – MUFPP Today as Operational Infrastructure
16 Oct – Future Opportunities: Alliances and Commitments, on the occasion of the World Food Day
Field visits, training sessions, masterclasses, and other optional activities are scheduled for 13 and 17 October.

MILAN CITY TAX
Since September 2012, Milan City Council has introduced a city tax for tourists staying overnight in Milan. Tourists will have to pay the levy in addition to the hotel bill as follows:
- Euro 7,00 per person per night for guests staying at 4 and 5-star hotels
- Euro 6,30 per person per night for guests staying at 3-star hotels

HOTEL ACCOMMODATION FOR GROUPS
Group reservations for 6 rooms or more will be handled by separate contracts and regulations. In order to submit an enquiry for a group booking, please contact MiCo dmc by e-mail at mufpp2025.hotels@micodmc.it providing the number of rooms needed, hotel category and preferred location if possible.

Visa Requirements
The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation provides complete information on whether you require a visa to enter Italy, as well as instructions on how to obtain a visa prior to traveling to Italy, at the following link: https://vistoperitalia.esteri.it/home/en.
The visa application process, if required, falls under the responsibility of the applicant. Applicants may lodge their visa applications directly to the competent Visa Office of the Italian Consular Representation. The visa application shall be submitted to the visa office of the Italian embassy or consulate competent for the place where that person is resident.

Flight to Milan
Milan is served by three airports: Malpensa, Linate, and Bergamo Orio al Serio.
Malpensa (MXP, 45 km from the city center) can be reached from the center of Milan using the Malpensa Express train from the Cadorna, Milano Centrale, and Milano Porta Garibaldi stations.
Linate (LIN, 7 km from the city center) can be reached by the M4 underground line and by the 73 ATM bus from the city center.
The M4 subway is in service Monday through Sunday from 6:00 am to 12:30 am. The NM4 line, in service during nighttime hours, replacing the M4 between the airport and San Babila from 12:30 am to 5:30 am. Monday through Friday and on holidays, with the same timetable in the opposite direction as well.
Bergamo Orio al Serio (BGY, 50 km from the city center) can be reached by bus shuttle services run by various companies. More info at https://www.milanbergamoairport.it/en/
Health Insurance
It is strongly recommended, especially for non-EU visitors, to obtain travel/health insurance before departure to be covered for any accidents and illnesses not covered by the National Health Service.

Italy guarantees medical assistance to anyone who needs it and goes to a public hospital or similar facility. In these cases, there is no charge.
In case of an emergency, for immediate medical attention or to call an ambulance dial 112 from any telephone in Italy. This is a free number to dial without any prefix: the operator will put you in touch with the most appropriate authority or service.

Getting around Milan
Milan has an extensive and efficient public transportation system managed by ATM (Azienda Trasporti Milanesi), making it easy to navigate the city and surrounding areas.
Subway, Trams & Buses
The Milan Metro network includes five lines:
- M1 (Red)
- M2 (Green)
- M3 (Yellow)
- M4 (Blue)
- M5 (Purple)
These connect the city center with key districts, neighborhoods, and suburbs. Download the metro map here
In addition to the metro, the Passante Ferroviario (urban railway) and regional trains link Milan with nearby towns and other cities across Lombardy and northern Italy.
You can purchase tickets at:
- Authorized vendors: bars, newsstands, and tobacconists – often located inside or near metro stations
- Automatic machines in all metro stations
- The ATM Milano Official App, which allows you to buy and validate tickets directly from your smartphone
- Via SMS (details on the ATM website)
- You can tap your contactless credit or debit card directly on the card readers on all buses, trams, and at metro turnstiles – no ticket needed. It’s quick, safe, and doesn’t require registration.
Tickets are valid across all modes of public transport.

Taxis
Licensed taxicabs in Milano are white and do not usually pick up passengers on the street. They can be requested by phone and online, or by going to the designated taxi ranks. The fare is calculated on the meter, or with fixed rates for pre-established routes.
Bookings can be made with the Municipality’s Milano In Taxi app available for iOS and Android or by calling the toll-free number 027777 or through the www.taxi.comune.milano.it website.

Accessible Drinking Water: Milan’s Public Fountains
As you enjoy going around the city, you can quench your thirst at the many public fountains, a small gesture maybe but one that also makes your visit more sustainable.
The Vedovelle, aka the Green Dragons, are one of the symbols of Milano. These cast-iron fountains, with their curved taps that evoke the shape of a dragon’s head, can be found in all the city’s districts. Milano’s water is safe, drinkable and tastes good. Here’s a list of the city’s monumental fountains.
Can I smoke outdoors?
In Milano, smoking is prohibited in all public areas or areas of public use in the open air, including streets and roads, except for secluded areas where a distance of 10 metres from other people can be respected.
The smoking ban only concerns tobacco products, while the use of electronic cigarettes is permitted.
Money exchange
The currency used in Italy is the euro (€). It is possible to exchange money:
- at post offices, exchange offices at airports and in some hotels. At banks, the exchange is suject to a registration procedure according the current rules and regulations.
- in the city centre, showing a passport or an identity card it is possible to exchange money at Banca Ponti, in Piazza Duomo 19, generally open from Monday to Friday from 08.30 a.m. to 01.30 p.m. and from 03.30 p.m. to 04.30 p.m.
- there are also private exchange offices located in the most touristic areas of the city. Before exchanging money, though, please verify what commission charges they are adopting.
